What Makes Them Laugh?

Little kids make me! And, I'm sure the same is true for you. But, have you ever considered what makes them laugh. Think about it. Babies can only do a few things, cry, eat, poop and . . . laugh. Now crying, eating and pooping are normal bodily functions which the kid has very little control of. But, laughing? How do they know? I think that we're all born with a sense of humor. Kind of a gift. Through the years we use it, abuse it and in some cases lose it. So, you see, those little babies are laughing at us not with us. A baby can render any grown up adult into a oogling, googling, squeaky voiced idiot. Just hand a person an infant and in seconds they're emitting sounds that defy spelling. By the way I'm talking about the adult not the baby. Sooner or later all of these antics bring a smile to baby's face. Mission accomplished. In the past years we've been blessed with a bunch grandkids who have provided hours of entertainment for me. Not the babies but the adults "playing" with them. Put a baby in a room, add a mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, cousin or even a complete stranger and within seconds the room is full of cootchies, and coos, singing, whistling, jiggling, shaking, a few tosses into the air and the mandatory knee bouncing. In turn the baby will eventually give in and crack a smile or, in a lot of cases, throw up.The next time the opportunity arises, stand back and watch the adult not the baby and I think you'll enjoy a good laugh (Unless you happen to be the one doing the bouncing and talking in a high pitched squeaky voice.) Here are a couple of shots of the results of many people's efforts. Try to image what it took to get that poor little kid to react this way.

Ha, Ha! Say that again and move those "magic" fingers a little to the left!
